Rweaves

Rweaves aims to rejuvenate traditional art & craft forms by providing business support to rural artisans
like raw materials, capacity building, branding; marketing aid for finished hand-woven products,
encouraging participation in art fairs, etc.

Background: The rural artisans practicing most traditional; beautiful weaving art forms (Tangaliya & Patola) from Surendranagar, Gujarat were even struggling to make enough money to sustain their livelihoods.
Saath began working with over 2000 weavers of Surendranagar to help improve their access to
affordable credit and develop contemporary designs for more marketable products. Coming together
with Care India and NIFT (National Institute of Fashion and Technology), Saath formed SHG groups and
helped the artisans with a raw material bank and bringing the artisans to start weaving again. It later set
up SUVAS, Surendranagar Vankar Samaj – a Federation of all the Patola and Tangaliya weavers.

RWEAVES: Since its inception in 2010, Rweaves is working towards rejuvenating these traditional art forms by
providing business support like raw materials, marketing aid for finished hand-woven products,
encouraging participation in art fairs, providing working capital, designing contemporary products, and
marketing information. Our product line includes stoles, dupattas, kurta material, purses, and pouches,
napkin sets, cushion covers, sarees, iPad covers, and laptop bags. We continuously design new products
based on market demand and trends.

Impact So far: 120 artisan households were reached through Rweaves programs.
